Title: Touch & Go
Series: Dare to Love #2
Author: Mira Lyn Kelly
Release Date: February 17, 2015
A few months ago — November, I think — I read this book called Touch & Go, and it blew me away. I already love the friends-to-lovers trope and Mira Lyn Kelly certainly wrote one of my favorite books with this trope.
When I read the first book in the series, Truth or Dare, I was intrigued by Sam and Ava’s relationship. Their closeness was evident from the very beginning. And although, Ava and Maggie were also best friends, Ava’s relationship with Sam still stood out for me.
In this book, we get to peel back those layers of friendships. Sam met Ava and her brother Ford when they were young children, and because of his difficult home life, Sam sort of became a permanent fixture in Ava’s home. He’s like Ava’s second brother. I really liked how the book, through Ava’s and Sam’s memories, allowed us to glimpse of those early years.
Sam’s back story was heartbreaking. It was a big contributing factor to the man that he is now. Sam felt strongly about Ava and Ford’s family and he worked hard to honor their sacrifices for him. So when the attraction and the chemistry flared up between him and Ava, Sam’s brain couldn’t quite keep up having put Ava in the friend zone all those years ago.
Ava, on the other hand, had been in love with Sam since they were little. She never saw him as a big brother but she did see him as her friend. And because his friendship was so important to Ava, she also had put Sam in a box and locked up her feelings about Sam until one night.
After sharing a very heated kiss, their relationship suddenly snowballed. What started out as a one-night only proposition turned into two, three until lines started blurring until their hearts are in danger of being broken. This reader’s heart broke also. I felt so much for Ava and Sam. I could see Sam falling but his mind couldn’t quite keep up with his heart and his stubbornness almost cost him the love of his life.
There’s one very intense scene that left me gasping because it was so heart-wrenching I could actually feel my heart breaking for the two of them.
Overall, this book did not disappointed. It was funny and intensely hot. I loved their chemistry. It was also wonderful to see the rest of the gang. And speaking of the ‘rest of the gang’, I cannot wait for Ford’s book. He has something going on that he’s trying so desperately to hide and I cannot wait to find out what it is.
