Review: All the Way (Romancing Manhattan #1) by Kristen Proby

It’s been a while since I’ve picked up a Kristen Proby book but as soon as I started reading this, I was transported back to when I had picked up Come Away With Me. Finn and London reminded me a bit of Luke and Natalie but their story is unique and all their own. London Watson is broken. She went through some unspeakable tragedy and my heart truly felt for her. She not only lost her family but she also lost her career and suffered an injury. She came to Martha’s Vineyard to put the broken pieces of her life together. Finn is just the man who could help her do that. He definitely rose to the challenge. All the Way will definitely appeal to readers who love the hero in pursuit trope because Finn is the quintessential hero in pursuit. He doesn’t let anything get in the way. And […]

A fun read read despite pacing issues! My review for The Chase is here!

A fun read read despite pacing issues! My review for The Chase is here!

This is probably one of the most difficult reviews that I have to write this year. For one, 3-star reviews are always difficult to write. And two, I love everything Elle Kennedy writes except this one. I didn’t dislike it or hate it. I just didn’t LOVE it even though I was expecting to. The Chase is the first book from Kennedy’s new Briar U series. If the name of the series sounds familiar to you, it should since it’s the spin off of her popular and widely loved Off-Campus series. This book is Summer and Fitzy’s story. Summer is Dean’s sister. We met her previously in Dean’s book. Summer is a whirlwind of Prada and Chanel No.5. She is my favorite part of this book. Fitzy was Dean’s teammate and we met him briefly in The Goal. The story starts off with Summer starting a new semester in Briar U […]

Tessa Dare does it again with The Governess Game! Read my review!

Tessa Dare does it again with The Governess Game! Read my review!

Tessa Dare writes my kind of romance. Her latest book proved that once again. The Governess Game is filled with relatable characters, playful banter, and a swoon-worthy romance. “First he was merely the Bookshop Rake, but as the weeks wore on, he made a rapid ascent up the rungs of the peerage. Sir Read. Lord Literature. The Duke of Hatchard’s.” When Alex Mountbatten ran (literally) into Chase Reynaud at Hatchard’s book shop, she had no idea that in a few months time she would be working as a governess for the two wards who came under his care. She was a clock-setter, not a governess. But some unexpected circumstances landed Alex her new position as Chase’s governess and thus, the Governess Game begins. And boy, did it ever begin. “You are the worst example of false advertising. I was led to believe I was hiring a prim scold. Then I […]

July Monthly Wrap-Up!

July Monthly Wrap-Up!

What do a hot football player, a badass magic sword-welding merc and a hidden duke with a heart of gold have in common? Errm, nothing much except that they all kept me company this month! Not all of these titles I’ve read worked for me. Some are okay, some are spectacular! There are some that I disliked across the board. But regardless of whether I liked them or not, they made my reading experiences richer!

Review: All Your Perfects by Colleen Hoover

Review It’s been a while since I’ve truly sat down and read a Colleen Hoover book until I came across the blurb for this book. One. It has a marriage-in-peril trope that I love in my books. Two, the blurb along with the first chapter the author shared on social media truly captured my interest. Three. The meet-cute was quite unique. The whole book itself, however, was disappointing. Quinn and Graham are two married couple whose marriage is on the brink of collapse. There were many things that contributed to this collapse, which readers will slowly learn but the main contributor to their marriage’s demise was Quinn’s infertility. This was handled well by Hoover. As the book is told by Quinn, we get to experience her pain and bitterness first hand. And a lot of the scenarios that she mentioned rang very true. We immediately understand that this is a […]

Review: A Duke by Default (Reluctant Royals #2) by Alyssa Cole

My Review “You’re my liege. You’re the person I’m fighting for.” Alyssa Cole delivered another sweet and heartfelt romance with A Duke by Default! She continues to be one of my go-to contemporary romance authors these days. There’s just something about her stories and her characters that speaks to me as a reader. And this book, is a great example of what this talented author can do! Portia Hobbs might be my favorite Alyssa Cole heroine to date. When she was introduced, she was a bit of a hot mess. She has a truckload of issues that made her an interesting character to me. I didn’t like her that much in A Princess in Theory but I was curious about her. And I knew that Alyssa Cole is going to do her story justice. She was done with fuckboys, and fuckbosses for that matter, no matter how sexy their accents […]

Review: Magic Slays (Kate Daniels #5) by Ilona Andrews

Review: Magic Slays (Kate Daniels #5) by Ilona Andrews

Review Ilona Andrews continue to impress with the fifth installment of the Kate Daniels series! Magic Slays not only upped the ante in terms of the action and the mystery but it also added a whole lot of emotional stakes. “I love you too, Kate. If you ever became hurt, I would not leave you. I’ll be there. Wherever you want‘there’ to be.”  I know you guys are tire of me saying this but this was another fantastic installment of the Kate Daniels series. There’s always a danger of a series getting stale right after the main couple of hooks up. Kate and Curran are a couple now. They’re together, and Ilona Andrews could’ve rested in their laurels but that didn’t happen. They’ve taken this series and added more meat into it. In this book, another layer of Kate’s character is exposed, right along Curran’s. Kate once again proved why […]

Review: Magic Bleeds (Kate Daniels #4) by Ilona Andrews

Review “I can’t give you the white picket fence, and if I did, you’d set it on fire.” What can I say? Another amazing installment in the Kate Daniels series!!! Kate Daniels, mercenary and psuedo Knight of the order gets to meet a long lost family member. It should’ve been a happy family reunion but this is Kate Daniels we’re talking about and to say that her family is just dysfunctional is an UNDERSTATEMENT! The stakes just keeps getting higher and Kate is confronting bigger and more powerful beings. Man, the action in this book is top notch. There are so many moments where I don’t even know if Kate and Curran would come out of it alive. “Don’t die on me, you stupid sonovabitch. You goddamn fucking idiot. I told you to stay out of the damn fight! Why the hell don’t you ever listen? I fucking hate you. […]

Review: Magic Strikes (Kate Daniels #3) by Ilona Andrews

“I was conceived, born, raised and trained with one purpose in mind: to become the best killer I could be. It’s what I do.” There are two things that I was curious about coming into this series. One, I wanted to know why Kate Daniels is so universally beloved by readers. Two, I wanted to know why the Curran-and-Kate pairing was deemed the OTP by so many who loved the series. It becomes readily apparent why Kate and Curran are so loved by so many as the series progress. By the third book, I’m now a certified Kate Daniels evangelist. Yes! I love Kate’s character. She is one of my favorite heroines ever, if not my ultimate favorite. You just can’t help but love her character! If you look up “badass” in the dictionary, her picture would be in there. She’s brave, resourceful, and so hilarious. She’s also very relatable. […]

Review: Magic Burns (Kate Daniels #2) by Ilona Andrews

When I started reading this series October of last year, I had no idea the impact it would bring to my reading life. Sounds a bit melodramatic, no? But I’m not the type of reader who binge on a series. I just don’t have the disposition for it. I get so bored easily that bingeing on a long series is nearly impossible. Or so I thought until this series. And if there was a moment in the book where everything clicked for me, it would be this hilarious exchange between Curran and Kate: “Not only will you sleep with me, but you will say ‘please.’” I stared at him, shocked. The smile widened. “You will say ‘please’ before and ‘thank you’ after.” Nervous laughter bubbled up. “You’ve gone insane. All that peroxide in your hair finally did your brain in, Goldilocks.” The romance between these two won’t be realized until […]
