Review: Devil’s Daughter by Lisa Kleypas

Lisa Kleypas is a master storyteller. She has this uncanny ability of making the most mundane situation, like talking about livestock & accounting, and turning it into the swooniest and most romantic thing ever. And she proved that again and again in Devil’s Daughter. West was a bit of an enigma in the previous Ravenel novels. To Phoebe, he was the boy who bullied her believed Phillip in school. To society, West is a libertine and a drunkard. But to his family, he’s the loyal and loving brother to everyone. Like Phoebe, I slowly and irrevocably fell in love with West’s humor and his steady presence. He exuded strength and understanding like if something goes wrong, you’d never have to worry because he’d be there to solve everything. West is exactly what Phoebe needed. After mourning the death of her husband, Phoebe is faced with the task of handling the […]

Review: A Duke by Default (Reluctant Royals #2) by Alyssa Cole

My Review “You’re my liege. You’re the person I’m fighting for.” Alyssa Cole delivered another sweet and heartfelt romance with A Duke by Default! She continues to be one of my go-to contemporary romance authors these days. There’s just something about her stories and her characters that speaks to me as a reader. And this book, is a great example of what this talented author can do! Portia Hobbs might be my favorite Alyssa Cole heroine to date. When she was introduced, she was a bit of a hot mess. She has a truckload of issues that made her an interesting character to me. I didn’t like her that much in A Princess in Theory but I was curious about her. And I knew that Alyssa Cole is going to do her story justice. She was done with fuckboys, and fuckbosses for that matter, no matter how sexy their accents […]

Review: Magic Slays (Kate Daniels #5) by Ilona Andrews

Review Ilona Andrews continue to impress with the fifth installment of the Kate Daniels series! Magic Slays not only upped the ante in terms of the action and the mystery but it also added a whole lot of emotional stakes. “I love you too, Kate. If you ever became hurt, I would not leave you. I’ll be there. Wherever you want‘there’ to be.”  I know you guys are tire of me saying this but this was another fantastic installment of the Kate Daniels series. There’s always a danger of a series getting stale right after the main couple of hooks up. Kate and Curran are a couple now. They’re together, and Ilona Andrews could’ve rested in their laurels but that didn’t happen. They’ve taken this series and added more meat into it. In this book, another layer of Kate’s character is exposed, right along Curran’s. Kate once again proved why […]

Review: Magic Bleeds (Kate Daniels #4) by Ilona Andrews

Review “I can’t give you the white picket fence, and if I did, you’d set it on fire.” What can I say? Another amazing installment in the Kate Daniels series!!! Kate Daniels, mercenary and psuedo Knight of the order gets to meet a long lost family member. It should’ve been a happy family reunion but this is Kate Daniels we’re talking about and to say that her family is just dysfunctional is an UNDERSTATEMENT! The stakes just keeps getting higher and Kate is confronting bigger and more powerful beings. Man, the action in this book is top notch. There are so many moments where I don’t even know if Kate and Curran would come out of it alive. “Don’t die on me, you stupid sonovabitch. You goddamn fucking idiot. I told you to stay out of the damn fight! Why the hell don’t you ever listen? I fucking hate you. […]

Review: Magic Strikes (Kate Daniels #3) by Ilona Andrews

“I was conceived, born, raised and trained with one purpose in mind: to become the best killer I could be. It’s what I do.” There are two things that I was curious about coming into this series. One, I wanted to know why Kate Daniels is so universally beloved by readers. Two, I wanted to know why the Curran-and-Kate pairing was deemed the OTP by so many who loved the series. It becomes readily apparent why Kate and Curran are so loved by so many as the series progress. By the third book, I’m now a certified Kate Daniels evangelist. Yes! I love Kate’s character. She is one of my favorite heroines ever, if not my ultimate favorite. You just can’t help but love her character! If you look up “badass” in the dictionary, her picture would be in there. She’s brave, resourceful, and so hilarious. She’s also very relatable. […]

Review: Magic Burns (Kate Daniels #2) by Ilona Andrews

When I started reading this series October of last year, I had no idea the impact it would bring to my reading life. Sounds a bit melodramatic, no? But I’m not the type of reader who binge on a series. I just don’t have the disposition for it. I get so bored easily that bingeing on a long series is nearly impossible. Or so I thought until this series. And if there was a moment in the book where everything clicked for me, it would be this hilarious exchange between Curran and Kate: “Not only will you sleep with me, but you will say ‘please.’” I stared at him, shocked. The smile widened. “You will say ‘please’ before and ‘thank you’ after.” Nervous laughter bubbled up. “You’ve gone insane. All that peroxide in your hair finally did your brain in, Goldilocks.” The romance between these two won’t be realized until […]

Review: Iron and Magic (Iron Covenant) by Ilona Andrews

Review Ilona Andrews are one of those authors that can’t seem to do no wrong, and they proved that once again with Iron and Magic. Filled with interesting characters, pulse pounding action, and vivid world-building, Iron and Magic will leave you breathless with excitement. Fast-paced and well plotted with some of the best battle sequences I’ve read in my whole life, Iron and Magic exceeded all my expectations, and then some! “There is a tried-and-true method of making an alliance appear secure,’’ Lamar said carefully. Hugh glanced at him. “A union,” Lamar said, as if worried the word would cut his mouth. ‘’What union?” ‘’A civil union, Preceptor.’’ ‘’What the hell are you on about?’’ Lamar took a deep breath. ‘’Marriage!’’ Bale yelled out. Hugh stared at Lamar. ‘’Marriage?’’ ‘’Yes.’’ They had to be out of their minds. ‘’Who would be getting married?’’ ‘’You.’’ Iron and Magic opens a few […]

Review: The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang

“I like you better than calculus, and math is the only thing that unites the universe.” Oh my gosh, this book! I’ve seen my friends gush about Helen Hoang’s debut for a month or so, and being a contrarian that I am, I tried to temper my expectations. I’ve been here before. Everyone I know loved a book and I’m like, ‘meh’. But that’s not the case here. The Kiss Quotient not only met my expectations, IT EXCEEDED IT! I finished this book with a huge grin on my face (always a good sign) and full heart. These characters that Hoang brought to life in the pages of her book made me laugh, cry, and fall in love with them. “You’re very good at the talking part.” “I’ve had sex. There isn’t a talking part.” A spark danced in his eyes. “There’s definitely a talking part.” Stella Lane is magnificent […]

ARC Review: Stay Until We Break (Hub City #2) by Mercy Brown

“The only problem with having Cole McCormack as your chronic masturbation fantasy is that he’s everybody’s chronic masturbation fantasy—and he knows it.” I have been waiting for Cole and Sonia’s story ever since I’ve read Loud is How I Love You a few months ago. I knew their story was going to be good and hot. I expected it just based on the chemistry they had going on. What I did not expect was the gut wrenching, emotional punch it brought. It slayed me. I did not expect that. Stay Until We Break starts off with a bang. Stars on the Floor are on the road, hoping to catch a big break and get signed by a label, make their dreams come true. For Cole and Sonia, it’s a chance to explore the attraction they’ve had for one another. But Sonia isn’t quite sure about Cole because one, he’s a […]

TRLR Hit List: Contemporary Romances Set Outside the US

I have a confession to make. This post has been languishing in draft folder for a while now, and it wasn’t until last night that I finally got to finish writing it. Hurrah! *throws confetti in the air* So here it is. TRLR’s Hit List. First up, contemporary romance set outside the US, and let me tell you guys that I’ve read and loved everything on this list. I have to add a disclaimer though. All the books included on this list are books that I’ve read personally. So if you don’t see your fave books here, don’t fret. It might be because I haven’t read it yet. So if you think your fave book belongs on this list, tell me about it in the comments section and I’ll be adding it to my TBR. Now on to the Hit List. In random order. On Dublin Street Series by Samantha […]
