My Top Reads for 2014

Here it is! The best and the brightest books for 2014 — according to me, of course. This year alone, I’ve read about 352 books–356!! Out of that 356, there were a handful that were truly unforgettable to me. Take note: Not all of the books I’m going to list here are 5 stars. There are a few 4 and 4.5 star reads, but I’ve included them because a), they were unforgettable; b), they pulled out all kinds of emotions from me. Also note that a few favorites might have been published before 2014 but since I’ve read them this year, I think they should have a place on my list. So without further ado, I present my top reads for 2014, in random order. Before Jamaica Lane by Samantha Young – This book. One of the best friends-to-lovers book out there. Nate and Olivia left quite an impression on […]

Review: The Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase

Now I know why this book is considered a classic in the romance genre. I was utterly charmed by the unconventional love story between Lord Dain and Jessica Trent. Dain was described as somewhat less than an appealing hero, physically with a countenance of a brute. But boy, did he won me over in the end not by changing into someone unrecognizable but just by being him and falling in love with Jessica. Jessica Trent is one of the best heroines I’ve read of all time. Seriously, this girl rocks. She was sassy, smart and beautiful. Most of all, she wasn’t afraid to call Dain on his bullshit. And while she was a virgin, she didn’t act like a nitwit when it comes to getting physically intimate with her brute of a husband. Their banter was hilarious. It was one of the best things of this book. I found myself […]

Teaser, Cover Reveal, and More!

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you had a great one. Isn’t it amazing how fast the year has gone? I’m kind of bummed but at the same time excited for what 2015 has in store for all of us. In just a few days, we’re going to say goodbye to 2014 and say hello to 2015. So before the year ends, and before I reveal my top reads for 2014, I thought I’m going to post a teaser and cover for two of my highly anticipated books for 2015. Now, I’ve already read the first book, and since this will be release on January 6th, I’m going to hold on to my review for a little while before sharing it you. So I thought, a teaser would suffice. So which book am I talking about, you ask? Well, it’s this book called Falling Away by Penelope Douglas. It’s the third book from […]

Review: Bad Romeo (Starcrossed #1) by Leisa Rayven

Review: Bad Romeo (Starcrossed #1) by Leisa Rayven

More than a month ago, I read a book called Bad Romeo by Leisa Rayven. (Don’t ask me how to pronounce her name ’cause I wouldn’t know how.) Anyway, this is Rayven’s debut novel. Prior to my reading it, it had been getting a lot of good buzz from the book blogging community. That got me excited. Plus, the blurb promised a very angsty read. When Cassie Taylor met Ethan Holt at acting school, sparks flew. She was the good girl actress. He was the bad boy about campus. But one fated casting choice for Romeo and Juliet changed it all. Like the characters they were playing, Cassie and Ethan’s romance seemed destined. Until he broke her heart and betrayed her trust. Now the A-list heartthrob is back in her life and turning her world around. One touch at a time. Cast as romantic leads once again, they’re forced to confront […]

Review: Always Been Mine by Victoria Page

Blurb Beatrice Porter swore she would never fall in love with a man like her father. For years she watched her mother self-destruct in bitterness, married to someone who only lived for his job. Gabriel Sullivan was such a man—a Navy SEAL, a man who put duty and country above all else. Yet falling in love with him was inevitable. She thought their relationship could work until he’d left her one night with a broken heart and her pride in tatters. Three years later, he’s back and he wants a second chance. Having committed atrocities for the greater good, Gabe has nothing left but darkness inside him. The only flicker of light is the memory of Beatrice—a woman embedded deeply under his skin. Winning her back won’t be easy for she has erected walls that only the toughest of SEALs can hope to scale. When Beatrice finds herself at the […]

Review: The Charlotte Chronicles (The Jackson Boys #1) by Jen Frederick

Blurb Charlotte and Nathan were supposed to be forever. They grew up together. Their families were intertwined. Charlotte was Nathan’s first love. Nathan was Charlotte’s first everything. Until they weren’t. How do you hold on to the person you know in your heart you are supposed to be with when everything and everyone in the universe is telling you it’s over? How many times does a heart break? When is enough…..enough?How long is forever? I spent quite a bit of time going back and forth with my rating. I can’t decide whether to rate it 3.5 or 4. In the end, I decided to go with four for these reasons… Nate and Charlie. From the get go, I felt their connection and chemistry together. Considering that Nick also figures pretty prominently in the book, that’s no easy feat. Ms. Frederick was able to establish early on the indelible connection between Nate […]

Welcome to my new home!

Welcome to my new home!

About two years ago, I started my first blog, Ever After Romance Book Blog. It was an extension of my passion for reading. I was so excited to be blogging about books that I love and loathe, and getting ARCs that I totally over-extended myself. I got heavily involved with the blog tour circuit, and I signed up for every blog tour, cover reveal, release day blitz I could find. It was exhausting. Reading and reviewing became a chore. Worst of all, my blog doesn’t look like the blog that I had envisioned when I first started. Last November, I decided to formally close that blog and start fresh. Hence, The Racy Lit Reader is born. This time, I won’t be doing much promo tours. If I do, it will only be because I truly loved the book and want to share my “find” with others. I’ve also decided to include some opinion […]
